Assistant Professors Needed in Sejong - Spring 2013


Korea University Sejong Campus in Sejong, South Korea, has openings for ESL(English as Second Language) professors. Our campus is in Sejong City, a new multifunctional administration City in Korea, located about 120km south of Seoul and 30km north of Daejeon.
Currently we have 22 native English-speaking professors hired by the Sejong Institute of International Affairs and Education.
We have openings, starting next semester (March 4th, 2013). We offer a two-year contract which may be subsequently renewed three times through evaluation. The application deadline is Nov. 30th, 2012.

POSITION
Full-time Assistant Professors

QUALIFICATIONS
- Applicants MUST have at least a master's degree and at least three years teaching experience in ESL. Preference will be given to applicants having a certificate in TESOL or Masters in Applied Linguistics and Bachelor's in English or related fields. We are looking for teachers who are not only competent but also enthusiastic, adaptable, creative, and cooperative.

DUTIES
The primary responsibility of this position is to teach several sections of two-semester English conversation/writing courses, which are required credit classes for all freshmen and sophomores on our campus. Other responsibilities include teaching some elective credit courses and/or non-credit courses in English, holding office hours, and participating in faculty meetings and professional development. The minimum teaching load for each semester is 16 hours of credit courses per week. Additional teaching hours may be required with overtime payments.
Professors have one-month-vacations during summer and winter vacation.

2. Copies of your original undergraduate and graduate diplomas.
- All diplomas should be apostilled, or verified by the Korean Consulate in the country of your nationality, or attached with documents issued by Korean Council for University Education and certificates (scanned and attached)
3. Copies of transcripts from undergraduate and graduate institutions clearly showing the date that the degree was awarded. (Original copies will be required)
4. Certificates of career or copies of letter of reference regarding your teaching experience, abilities and character
5. Copies of certificates in TESOL or equivalents, if applicable
6. Copy of the personal data pages of your passport
7. 1 passport size color photograph
8. A copy of criminal background records issued in the past 6 months should be sent by Dec. 21st, 2012.
- National Criminal Background Check apostilled, or verified after Aug. 1st, 2012 by the Korean Consulate in the country of your nationality (scanned and attached)
F2 or F5 visa holders do NOT need to submit a national criminal background check or your apostilled diploma. All other documents are required.

PAY AND BENEFITS
The basic annual salary will be approximately 41,000,000KRW(Korea won). The exchange rate is normally around 1,100KRW per US dollar. Airfare to South Korea from your home country will be reimbursed. You will only be reimbursed return airfare upon completion of your final contract. Benefits also include subsidized Korean National Health Insurance, and a semi-private office (shared by professors). Professors must also contribute to the Korea Teachers Pension Program.

HOUSING
Single dormitory rooms are standard. For a room in the faculty dormitory, professors are charged approximately 1,250,000KRW per semester. Also, we have apartments near Campus which will be charged 2,560,000KRW per year. This will be collected throughout the year in 8 monthly installments of 320,000KRW per month and automatically deducted from your pay.
Utilities, including electricity, water, phone, internet, and other apartment maintenance fees, are the sole responsibility of the professor. Professors are also welcome to arrange their own local housing at their expenses if they wish.
