Non-tenure track EFL professor for the 2013 spring semester at Soongsil University, Seoul, Korea


1. Position (One vacancy)
Baird University College at Soongsil University invites applicants for a non-tenure track, full-time professor position for its Freshman English Program (FEP): a compulsory credit-bearing course for all first-year students that includes general conversation and presentation skills, beginning on March 1, 2013.
2. Qualifications
1) Foreign native speaker of English
2) Master’s degree or above
- TEFL/TESL/CELTA certification is required for an applicant whose major field of study is not Applied Linguistics, English Literature or TESOL/TEFL.
3) More than a year of teaching experience at university level
4) Ability to give a teaching demonstration and attend an in-person interview on campus at Soongsil University
3. How to Apply

A. Employment Application Form with a recent photo (3.5 X 4.5 cm) (scanned and attached)

B. Resume & cover letter
C. Copies of diplomas/degrees (that have been apostilled, or verified by the Korean Consulate in the country of your nationality, or attached with documents issued by Korean Council for University Education and certificates if possible) (scanned and attached)
D. Original National Criminal Background Check (that have been apostilled, or verified after September 1st , 2012 by the Korean Consulate in the country of your nationality if possible) (scanned and attached)
E. Letters of recommendation including referees’ contact information (scanned and attached)
F. Official documentation of previous employment (scanned and attached)
G. Copy of ID page of passport (scanned and attached)
H. Copy of foreign registration card - both front and back page (scanned and attached)
*Please note that items C and D do not have to be apostilled, or verified by the Korean Consulate of your nationality at the time of application, but they need to be apostilled or verified to receive a contract.
2) Applicants who pass the initial screening process will be invited for an interview and will be required to do a short demonstration lesson. At the time of the interview and teaching demonstration, the following documents will need to be presented:
A. Original Diplomas/Degrees
B. Official documentation of previous employment
C. National Criminal Background Check (if possible)
4. Important Notes
1) Document authenticity: all documents submitted at time of application must be scans of the originals.
2) Interview: candidates must be available for a teaching demonstration and a face-to-face interview on approximately the 4th week of November or the 1st week of December at Soongsil University in Seoul.
3) Contract period: The initial contract is for one year – March 1st, 2013 to February 28th, 2014.
- Renewal based on student-teacher course evaluations and administrative assessment.
- Subsequent contracts are of two-year duration.
4) Working hours: Instructors are required to teach up to 18 hours per week (M-F) in our Freshman English Program.
5) Other responsibilities: Each instructor is required to spend up to one hour per week doing committee work (student assistance/ material development, etc.) and to attend all official functions.
6) Salary and Benefits
A. Starting salary ranges from 2.3 ~2.5 million won per month depending on educational and professional experience.
B. Overtime payment: 23,000 to 52,000 won per hour depending on the class taught
C. Housing: One room studio apartment in the Soongsil University dormitory or a housing allowance of 450,000 won per month.
D. Resettlement allowance: 800,000 won
E. Paid vacation: 8 weeks in summer & 8 weeks in winter

G. Korea Teachers’ Pension Plan
7) Document exemption for F2 or F5 visa holders: National Criminal Background Check, and apostilled diplomas/degrees are not required.
