GEPIK Teaching Positions! What are they?
You will work with the Korean English Teachers as a member of the teaching staff (a government paid position). You will be teaching three to five classes a day, five days a week. Hours typically start at 9AM and school is finished by 5PM. After school programs are often set up by the school (pay varies according to the school's budget) for middle schools and high schools. Class size can range anywhere from 12 students to 35 students depending on the school. The students’ English ability will vary and class lessons are usually flexible (you can teach materials you are comfortable with, provided you present the material in a standard ESL format - subject to your co-teacher's approval). Co-teachers will encourage you to teach in a style that suits you. Facilities are typically new and well maintained, and all classroom materials are provided by the school. Classrooms typically have a television, computer inputs, and other facilities for a multimedia lesson style. Additional budget money for other materials for special lessons (such as teaching English with cooking) is sometimes available.
What are the schools looking for in a teacher?
1. Schools love fresh faces who are eager to work with and according to the Korean Education System.
2. Korean Administrators want teachers who are polite and respectful to Korean culture.
3. Korean Public school teachers (your direct co-workers) are often receptive to new ideas and lessons, provided that the students enjoy the class and you are willing to cooperate with the Korean staff.

There is currently one elementary school position available in Uljin. A city on the eastern coast of Korea, Uljin is great for a teacher who wants to be closer to Korean culture than what you may find in a larger city, such as Seoul or Busan.

Thank you for the application and the updated resume. Allow me to explain a few points about teaching in Korea.
First of all, you mentioned that you were interested in teaching in Seoul or the surrounding areas such as Bundang. Almost 99 percent of the teachers that come from the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom all have the same request as to area preference. This makes it a highly competitive market and the schools will choose the most qualified individual with Korean teaching experience to fill those spots.
Secondly, the highest cost of living in Korea is in the areas that you prefer to teach in. If you want to save money or get the biggest bang from your salary, I suggest that you widen your area preference.
Here is what I can suggest to help you have a good teaching experience in Korea and allow you to save at least half of your monthly salary each and every month. I suggest that you take a rural position in the Korean countryside where you can gain some Korean teaching experience and learn the Korean language as well as some of the idiosyncrasies of Korean culture. We can offer you such a position and upon completion of a one year contract we can guarantee a teaching position in or around Seoul.
The cost of living is much lower in the countryside and the people tend to be friendlier and more welcoming than in the big cities. The area we have in mind for you is along the coast of the East Sea and it has many beautiful beaches and is a resort area. The position is with the public school system so your pay is guaranteed and never late. It will look great on your resume if you can show one year experience with the public school system and Koreans in general have a great deal of respect for public school teachers rather than the academy teachers.
The position we have in mind for you is with the Uljin Office of Education in or around the town of Uljin. There will be at least twenty-three other foreign teachers in Uljin county with you so you will never feel isolated. The starting pay is 2.3 million won per month and higher depending on your qualifications. After one year of full time employment you will be bumped up the salary scale and if you have a TESOL certificate that will also bump you up the salary scale. Public school teachers also socialize together after work and if you make a Korean friend they can open doors for you about the sights and the culture that remain closed for many westerners that only socialize with other foreigners.
You can expect the teaching level to be for beginners with very little English skill. This can be a positive thing because you will be teaching children with a clean slate. The public school will also give you double the amount of days for paid vacation (18 days) so you can easily go to the Philippines or Thailand / Cambodia from Korea. The working hours are a maximum of 22 forty-minute classes for elementary school and 22 forty-five minute classes for middle school. You will be expected, however, to spend eight hours each day at the school from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm. Any additional teaching hours over the 22 per week will be paid at an overtime rate of 20,000 won per class.
The school will reimburse you for your one-way economy flight within 30 days of your arrival. They will also pay for your return home at the end of the contract (with a set limit of 1,300,000 won each way). The school will also give you 300,000 won at the beginning of your contract for living expenses (bedding, pots, dishes, etc). Your housing will be paid by the school but you are responsible for the utilities (electricity, gas, cable).
I think for your situation this would be the best way to gain valuable experience with a guarantee of good pay and support for your first year in Korea. These are important aspects to consider because Korea is unlike any western foreign experience that you may have had. Our agency will promise to place you in a more urban setting once you have some experience under your belt. You can enjoy some of the natural beauty of Korea that Koreans pay big money for as a benefit of your job.

The one important question: How do I get these jobs?
