Assistant professor Positions (2) in Seowon University (Cheongju)

Location: Cheongju, Republic of Korea
"The FLEC of Seowon University is looking for well qualified and highly motivated assistant professors.
1. Position: Assistant professor of Foreign Language Education Center (non-tenure track)
2. Openings: 2
3. Qualifications:
(1) Native speaker of English
(2) MA with college-level teaching experience more than 2 years (or BA with an excellent qualification in college-level teaching experience more than 4 years)
(3) Degrees in English, Education, Linguistics (preferred)
(4) TESOL/TEFL certificate (preferred)
4. Main Responsibilities:
(1) To teach general English conversation classes
(Assistant professors may be given extra hours upon request of the university : Average 4 hours a week)
(2) To teach at least 12 hours a week during each semester
(3) To teach English summer and winter school programs (up to 12 hours a week)
5. Payment and Overtime Allowance:
(1) The annual salary for an assistant professor is 28,800,000 Won. (BA holders)
(2) MA Degree or Ph degree holders will be given extra 200,000 Won per month.
(28,800,000 + 200,000*12months = 31,200,000 Won)
(3) Overtime rate for Credit is 30,000 Won per hour and the rate for FLEC is 20,000 Won per hour above 12 hours a week.
(4) Seniority allowance at Seowon University :
Over 3 years(starting from 37th month) : 100,000 Won per month(1,200,000 Won a year)
Over 4 years(starting from 49th month) : 200,000 Won per month(2,400,000 Won a year)
* This is only about Seowon University experience
(5) Health Insurance: The assistant professor must join the Korea Teachers' Pension Fund and pay a portion of the monthly premium according to the Korea Teachers' Pension Law.
(6) Taxes: The assistant professor must pay any applicable Korean taxes as required by law.
6. Vacation: 8 weeks paid vacation per year (4 weeks after the summer school; 4 weeks after the winter school)
7. Housing: An assistant professor must choose one of 2 options that University provides.
- Option A
(1) A furnished flat is provided at the University¡¯s expense.
(2) Utilities are not included. (Utilities: water, electricity, gas, phone, TV and other basic expenses. Also, the apartment maintenance cost must be paid on the first month at a time.
(30,000Won/month * 12 months = 360,000Won)
(3) The assistant professor is expected to share his/her office with another instructor.
(4) The assistant professor must pay repair charges due to damages caused by his/her
carelessness and all outstanding balances of his/her bills before his/her contract termination.
- Option B
(1) The university provides the assistant professor with 4,200,000 Won half paid at the beginning of each semester in order to cover the cost of housing.(assistant professors can find accommodations at their convenience.).
(2) The amount of money is in accordance with University¡¯s policy. It would be subject to taxation.
(3) If an assistant professor chooses the option B, Seowon University will not provide any accommodation.
8. Contract Duration: March 1, 2014 – February 28, 2015
The contract is renewable upon successful completion.
