Hanyang Elementary School is a reputable private elementary school that has an immersion program. There are three English teachers for every grade – Grades 1-6 (two Korean teachers and one Foreign teacher). There are three subjects – Language Arts, Speaking and Reading. A textbook is provided for every class, however teachers are expected to enhance the lesson using their own creativity. Teachers teach only one of the grades and teach a total of 12 classes (4 high levels, 4 middle levels and 4 low levels). Each teacher has their own classroom. The number of students in each class is approximately 10.
Hanyang Elementary School is located on the women’s campus of Hanyang University (Subway: Line 2, Hanyang University Station, Exit 3).
Important Dates:
Employment Application Deadline: Thursday, October 31st at 1:00pm.
Interview Day: Saturday, November 9th at 1:00pm.
Contract Signing Date: The week of November 11th-15th (9am-5pm) or November 16th (9am-12pm).
Teacher Orientation: There will be a new teacher orientation on Saturday, February 8th at 10am.
Contract Dates: March 3rd, 2014 - March 2nd, 2015; no exceptions.
Teaching Conditions:
1. Working Hours: 8:30-3:00.
2. Teaching Hours: 24 classes per week (40 mins per class).
3. Size of Class: Approximately 10 students per class.
4. Age Level: Grades 1-6 elementary students (One grade per teacher).
5. Accommodation: Choice between 10,000,000 won key money or 300,000 won housing allowance per month (You must find your own housing, Hanyang will assist you with the contract).
6. Benefits: Severance bonus (one month salary), pension, and 50% health insurance.
7. Vacation: Paid vacation and Korean national holidays (summer vacation short, winter vacation long).
8. Salary: Certified and/or experienced teachers will receive 2,700,000 won per month. Additional pay for a 3 week summer camp (8:30~1:30, Monday to Friday) if required (it depends on the number of applicants).
Requirements of Employees:
1. Only those native English speakers that currently reside in Korea are invited to apply from (the US, Canada, Australia and the UK).
2. Hold a 4 year university degree in any major (BA/BS/BEd degree or higher) or equivalent.
3. All E2 visa applicants must submit a criminal record check report issued by their home country authorities and arrange confirmation through their own government.
4. Medical checkup must be done for drug screening and/or diagnostic results, AIDS, alcohol addiction, HIV and other infectious diseases. And the successful report should be submitted to immigration office before you register an alien card to stay in Korea. Even if you already have a visa to work in Korea, a medical check is required for the school.
5. Teachers must have at least 2 years of teaching experience in Korea.
Interview Information:
1. Interviews will be held Saturday, November 9th beginning at 1:00pm.
2. You will be required to do a 15 minute demo lesson and a short interview.
3. During the week of November 11th, you must return to the school to sign a contract if you are selected for the position.
