The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education (SMOE) http://etis.sen.go.kr/ has two special centers and regular public schools that will open on March 1st, 2013.
Seoul English Education Center (SEEC) http://www.seec.go.kr/
Requirements for applicants are the same as those listed on our website for normal positions.
Student Trainer
At this center students come for a week long to learn English through situationally-based classrooms. One can learn English while baking cookies in Mom's Kitchen, doing an experiment in the Science Lab or singing karaoke in the Music Room. There are over 17 different rooms for students to experience English in. During the week, Students work hard to put on a performance during the last night of their stay. There have dramas, comedy clubs, fashions shows, dance performances, and comics drawn by the students presented.
This environment is best for teachers with high energy who enjoy interacting with elementary (mainly) and middle school students through a variety of environments and teaching in a plethora of ways.
There are 11 teachers from all over the world currently teaching there. As there already many teachers from the US and Canada teaching there, we strongly encourage other candidates from other areas (UK, South Africa, New Zealand, Ireland, Australia) to apply. Secondly, we desire for a variety of ethnicities to be at the center, so we prefer non-Caucasians and non-Asians.
Teacher Trainer
At this center Korean teachers come to improve their English ability and English teaching ability. Courses are intensive, running for about a month in length. Teachers here need to have at least a master¡¯s degree and experience in teacher training. There are courses in speaking, listening, reading, writing, and practical English in the classroom.
There are some special allowances for both student trainers and teacher trainers working at the center above and beyond the basic salary.
-400,000 Korean Won per month for local disadvantage
-100,000 Korean Won per month for a long-distance public transportation allowance.
*If a teacher renews at the center for a second year a long-term service allowance of 300,000 Korean won per month will be given.
