Teachers Needed for Diplomatic English Training Program in Seoul


KNDA Full-Time English Instructor Announcement
The Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) is the primary training and education facility for diplomats of the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As part of our diplomatic English training program we offer courses in English communication skills such as debate, presentation, writing, speech writing, conference English, etc. We are currently planning to hire two full-time English instructors that meet the general and specific qualifications. Details of the position, qualifications, and application are as follows:
Required Qualifications:
*Master¡¯s Degree preferred in TESOL, Education or Communication related field
*Bachelor¡¯s Degree with 5 years full-time adult teaching experience may be accepted
*Native-speaker of English
*Professional work experience of at least 3 years in an established institution or business
*A minimum of 2 years full-time adult English teaching experience in Korea
(Preference given to those who have experience in both university and corporate settings)
*Familiar and flexible with Korean office, social, and educational culture

Preferred Qualifications:
*Familiar and/or have work experience in the public sector especially government, universities, and/or international organizations
* Professional international work experience in addition to teaching experience
*Familiar with international relations, governing entities, and world politics
*Conversationally fluent in Korean

Primary Responsibilities:
*Teach diplomatic communication skills classes in English as requested
*Develop relevant course curriculum (teacher and learner materials)
*Assess and evaluate trainees
*Participate in programmatic planning, evaluation, and development of various English communication programs
*Occasional editing

Employment Period:
One-year contract beginning May 1, 2013 (can also start June 1, 2013)
(can be extended in accordance with mutual agreement)

Salary:
Commensurate with educational background and relevant work experience
(about 3M+ which includes housing stipend)

Working Hours:
10-5pm Monday thru Friday
(includes class teaching time, curriculum development, class preparation, office hours, and meetings)

Paid Vacation:
3 weeks per year

Facilities:
KNDA is located 5 minutes from Yangjae Station. Instructors share a large office and conference areas with individual desks, computers, phones, printers, and personal storage cabinets

3. Copies of diplomas and relevant certifications
4. Copies of all transcripts
5. Teaching Philosophy Statement
6. Two recent letters of recommendation from direct supervisors (not colleagues)
7. Two sample lesson plans with all teacher and learner materials to be used
-Lesson 1: Choose one of the following: Presentation, Negotiation, Debate, Writing
-Lesson 2: Your choice (as you find relevant from your repertoire to KNDA)

Note about Lessons:
KNDA is not an academic institution or a Business English academy. Your lessons should be adapted to prepare and teach English communication skills to government officials and diplomatic trainees in mind.
*Majority of learners have an Intermediate to low-advanced level of English.
*Lessons should include a language focus and a skills focus section.
*They should not be simple grammar/vocabulary-based or discussion lessons.
*They should be interactive and include much opportunity for practice and feedback.
*They should also not be about soft skills.
