Director of Gangnam-UCR International Education Center (GNUCR) - (renewable one-year appointment, with full benefits) - $60,000-$65,000, Depending on Qualifications



UCR Extension is seeking a dynamic leader with demonstrated academic leadership experience to manage its Gangnam-UCR International Education Center (GNUCR)
Reporting to the Associate Dean of UC Riverside Extension, the GNUCR Director will manage the International Education Programs’ center in Seoul, Korea, which is a not-for-profit, joint educational project between the City Government of Gangnam and the University of California, Riverside Extension Center. The center employs 11 full-time English language teachers and four full-time staff.
The GNUCR Director is expected to maintain the quality of the academic program and uphold UCR’s standards. This position interacts with the other IEP staff and local Korean partners.
The GNUCR Director is expected to provide academic leadership necessary to maintain GNUCR’s reputation as one of the best English language programs in Korea and acumen to assess and successfully respond to the educational needs of GNUCR’s audience.
GNUCR encompasses an Intensive English Program, an Improving Oral Fluency program, an English for International Business program, a Korean Language Program and provides specialized language programs and TESOL training programs on occasion for local clients.
The GNUCR Director is responsible, in collaboration with the IEP Director, for the academic planning, organization and management functions of GNUCR programs.
The GNUCR Director possesses demonstrated cultural understanding and sensitivity, business acumen and confidence and understanding in dealing with the politics involved with an international partnership.
The GNUCR Director possesses the professional and personal skills to ensure the academic and administrative success of current and potential self-supporting programs through a demonstrated ability to lead, challenge, inspire, and motivate a team of dedicated professionals who teach and support programs delivered at the center in Seoul.
Position requirements:
•Master’s in TESOL or a closely related field;
• 3-5 years’ administrative experience in an International Education setting;
•experience in ESL teaching, program administration, curriculum design and/or testing and evaluation;
•Supervision of ESL instructional staff
•Ability to identify new program needs, opportunities and programs while supporting existing programs and services;
•Ability to work with staff, faculty and international partners in order to establish and implement strategic plans and communicate institutional directives and organizational changes;
•Ability to foster teamwork among faculty and staff;
•Ability to broker relationships between UCR and Korean partner;
•A strong belief in diversity, along with highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse population of faculty, office staff, international students and professionals;
•Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
•Availability to travel internationally;
•An understanding of and commitment to UC Riverside’s broad vision and mission and its outreach to the community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Develop and implement policy and procedures
•Manage daily operations of GNUCR
•Work effectively with various City government offices and their staff members
•Represent the University of California and uphold its standards
•Serve as the UCR(X) representative and liaison for visitors
•Provide regular feedback to the UCR(X)-IEP director
•Oversee curriculum design, development, implementation and analysis
•Plan classes and schedule teachers for Intensive Programs, Advance Level Intensive Programs, and special programs
•Design and implement teacher and staff development programs
•Appoint, train, mentor, and lead academic coordinator, CALL Coordinator and Student Affairs Coordinator for teacher evaluations, curricular reviews, developing new and existing programs, testing and placement of students, student counseling, managing of on-site facilities, researching and recommending software, etc.
•Oversee quality control (including evaluations, feedback, revisions, etc.) for all classes and programs
•Plan and conduct weekly meetings, professional development opportunities and in-services for teachers
•Hire and supervise instructional staff
•Evaluate and assess teacher and staff performance, recommending appointments, reappointments, promotions, dismissals, or non-renewals
•Evaluate the results of student evaluations and identifying strong/weak areas of teachers/classes
•Substitute teach as needed
•Review resumes and interview applicants for all GNUCR positions
•Preside over social functions
•Assist local partner with brochure updates and other marketing efforts as needed
•Review course guidelines every session
•Review and update GNUCR instructors’ handbook as necessary
•Produce annual report
