A Full-time, English language teacher is needed immediately for a unique teaching opportunity in Daegu, South Korea. The Daegu Gyeongbuk English Village (DGEV) was established via a partnership between The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Colorado (UCCS) and Yeungjin College (YJ), Daegu, South Korea. The purpose of the DGEV is to offer additional training to students of all ages in the usage of the English language in an experiential learning environment. The city of Daegu is approximately a one-hour flight or 90 minute KTX train ride southeast of Seoul, South Korea. It is the 3rd largest city in the country. The Daegu Gyeongbuk English Village (DGEV) is located 30 minutes away from the city of Daegu and adjacent to the new Yeungjin College (Chilgok) campus in a protected mountain setting.
Full-time teachers will commit to a 12-month contract, where they will teach five days per week as scheduled. This work schedule may include: weekends, holidays, and evening hours. The Lead Coordinator at the Village will be responsible for scheduling and evaluating teacher performance. The Assistant Lead Coordinator supports teachers on a daily basis. All instruction will be in English. Teachers are not expected to know or learn the Korean language. Cultural sensitivity to the Korean culture and lifestyle is required. Teachers will be advised on obtaining work visas/permits before they arrive in Korea.
Preferred Minimum Qualifications for Level 1 Teachers:
 Bachelor's degree in a school academic, or education related area
 One year or more teaching experience
 Candidates that hold K-8 teaching credentials or have early childhood education experience are preferred
 Willingness to attend unpaid orientation and training once you arrive in Korea
 Committed to diverse linguistic and cultural educational settings
 Teachers must be willing and able to commit to a 12-month contract

Salary Range: 24,000,000 (Level 1) to 30,000,000 won (Level 4)
Note: Final salary payment amount ultimately depends on bonuses or overtime that may have been paid over the duration of the contract.
Additional Benefits for Level 1 Teachers:
 Living arrangement provided: private furnished dorm room & bath w/ heated floors & central air conditioning, meals in Village cafeteria (breakfast, lunch, dinner), access to laptop & Internet, teacher resource room/office space, 24-hour-on-site fitness center, & scheduled shuttle bus service between the Village & Daegu City. (The provided living arrangements is valued at an estimated ₩ 12,253,164 *South Korean Won) Teachers signing on to a second contract may have the option of moving into provided apartments in Chilgok or Daegu.
 Full-time teachers will contribute a small percentage of monthly salary for their Korean Health Insurance and Pension.
 Paid vacation time is allotted according to the contract period and terms: 22 vacation days on a 12-month contract, 24 vacation days on a 13-month contract, 26 vacation days on a 14-month contract.
 An airline ticket from the U.S. to Korea will be provided. After completing the full contract period, the returning flight ticket to the U.S. will also be provided. The cost of the initial and return flights are not deducted from the initial salary amount provided the terms within the contract are met.
 Opportunity for bonus pay is based on “above and beyond” performance. Bonuses are not part of the teacher contract and are not guaranteed.

All applicants should be aware that new immigration requirements for a Korean E2 work visa include a federal/national criminal background check with federal apostille, a copy of your degree with state apostille, and health screening for HIV/drugs. Teacher reference checks, criminal background checks, and a Korean health screening will be conducted for teachers that are hired. Your contract is conditional upon satisfying each of these requirements. Those individuals with master’s degrees may be eligible for a Korean E1 work visa in which the federal/national criminal background check is not currently required.
New teachers should plan to arrive one week early for unpaid training/orientation and to take care of personal matters [bank accounts, health insurance/screening, etc.] The pay period is effective upon the first, official day of teaching at Daegu Gyeongbuk English Village and the contract appointment shall end 12-months after that date. Teacher pay date falls on the 25th of each month.
