Myongji University (Seoul Campus) Job Post Spring 2014

Myongji University is run by the Myongji Educational Foundation, a Christian organization dedicated to providing an education based on Christian principles. Job Description
Myongji University is seeking qualified English Language Instructors (Issued an E-1 visa) to join a well-established program. We are looking for enthusiastic and qualified people to contribute to the focus areas listed below. (16 hours/ week) Additionally, all instructors are expected to hold office hours and attend staff meetings.
Teaching Focus
Core Conversation: positions are available in core requirement courses in English Conversation taught from standardized curriculum. Successful applicants will be team-oriented professionals who are creative but also able to work within a standardized program.
Writing Program: positions are available for a writing program which provides students with the basic writing skills. Successful applicants will be energetic and demonstrate experience and qualifications in writing instruction. Advanced Writing classes may be offered if demand exists, and the instructors should also be involved in teaching core conversation courses. (16 hours/week)
Extra Work Opportunities
Instructors may be asked to take on extra hours in MJU’s English CafĂ©, and Myongji University also runs limited winter and summer semesters. It is the responsibility of the team as a whole to meet the needs of the university. Whenever possible, these opportunities are filled by those who volunteer to teach; however, if volunteers cannot be found, MJU may designate instructors at its own discretion. Instructors are paid overtime for hours beyond the contractually specified amount.
Period of Employment
March 1, 2014 – February 28, 2015
Qualifications
-Master’s and 2 year university teaching experience
-Native English speaker with degree in TESOL, Linguistics or English preferred.
Salary and Benefits:
- The starting salary ranges from 27,000,000 - 29,000,000 Won depending on qualifications and experience. It is paid over 12 months and is deemed to include airfare.
-1 month’s severance bonus at the end of successful contract is also offered
-Upon successful renewal of contract instructors receive a 1 million Won per annual raise for the first four renewals.
- instructors contribute to Health Insurance, Pension Plan
Housing (Seoul): A monthly stipend of 600,000 Won is offered, but instructors are responsible to find their own housing.
Application Process
Applications will be processed as they are received; therefore, early applications are strongly recommended. There are no set deadlines for individual phases of the application process. However, no submission will be considered after Dec. 8. We are sorry to inform you that only candidate selected for an interview will be contacted.
Phase 1
We ask that applicants email us all of the following documents:
-Resume
-Cover letter (including a brief description of teaching philosophy)
-A recent photo
-Copy of Diploma (original diploma must be presented at the interview)
-Copy of Transcript from all universities attended. (Please be prepared to have 1 sealed set of all transcripts sent directly to MJU from each institution you attended if you are offered a position. These are needed for processing visa applications.)
-Copy of Passport information page (present original at interview) and current visa designation (E-1, E-2, F-2-1, F-4 etc.)
-Copy of any relevant certificates (present originals at interview)
-Contact information for two references: including telephone and email addresses
These documents should be scanned and emailed in JPEG or PDF format to: applytoseoulmju@mju.ac.kr addressed to Dr. Yumi Hong.
Failure to produce originals at the interview will jeopardize the applicants’ chances of a job offer being extended.

Phase 2
Successful applicants will be granted an interview at the Seoul campus and may be asked to give a teaching demonstration or discuss their pedagogical approach to a specific exercise during the interview. Job offers will be made at the discretion of the university.
