Myongji University (Yongin Campus) Job Post Spring 2014



About the University:
Myongji University is run by the Myongji Educational Foundation, a Christian organization dedicated to providing an education based on Christian principles. It is important to the university that all faculty members embrace this worldview and profess a personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Currently, due to an expansion of the program, there are three positions available for the campus located in Yongin, an hour's drive south of Seoul.
Job Description
Myongji University is seeking qualified English language professors (issued an E-1 visa) to join a well-established program. We are looking for enthusiastic and qualified people to contribute to the focus area listed below. (16 hours/ week + overtime possibilities) Additionally, all professors are expected to hold regular office hours and attend all staff meetings.
Teaching Focus
Core Conversation: Three positions are available in core requirement courses in English Conversation taught from a standardized curriculum. Successful applicants will be team-oriented professionals who are creative but also able to work within a standardized program.
Additional Work Opportunities
Professors may be asked to take on overtime hours in MJU's English Cafe, and Myongji University also runs limited winter and summer semesters. It is the responsibility of the team as a whole to meet the needs of the university. Whenever possible, these opportunities are filled by those who volunteer to teach; however, if volunteers cannot be found, MJU may designate professors at its own discretion. Professors are paid overtime for hours beyond the contractually specified amount.
Period of Employment
March 1, 2014 -- February 28, 2015
Required Qualifications
- Master's and 2 years of full-time experience teaching credit courses at the university level
- Bachelor's with 4 years of full-time experience teaching credit courses at the university level.
-Degrees in TESOL, Linguistics or English preferred
Salary and Benefits:
-The starting salary ranges from 27,000,000 -- 29,000,000 Won depending on qualifications and experience. It is paid over 12 months and is deemed to include airfare.
-1 month's severance bonus at the end of the successful completion of the contract is also offered
-Upon successful renewal of contract professors receive a 1 million Won per annum raise for the first four renewals.
-Professors contribute to Health Insurance and Pension Plan
Housing
The school offers a housing stipend of 600,000 Won per month to all professors, which is paid in a lump sum together with their monthly salary. MJU's Yongin campus may be able to offer on campus housing options depending on availability.

Applications will be processed as they are received; therefore, early applications are strongly recommended. There are no set deadlines for individual phases of the application process; once we find a suitable candidate, we will stop processing applications. Phase 1
Applicants must email all the following documents before MJU will begin processing their application:
-Resume
-Cover letter (including a brief description of teaching philosophy)
-A recent photo
-Copy of Diploma (original diploma must be presented at the interview)
-Copy of Transcript from all universities attended. (Please be prepared to have 1 sealed set of all transcripts sent directly to MJU from each institution you attended if you are offered a position. These are needed for processing visa applications.)
-Copy of Passport information page (present original at interview) and current visa designation (E-1, E-2, F2-1, F-4 etc.)
-Copy of any relevant certificates (present originals at interview)
-Contact information for two references: including telephone and email addresses
These documents should be scanned and emailed in JPEG or PDF format to applytomju@mju.ac.kr addressed to Dr. Soonai Ham.
Failure to produce originals at the interview will jeopardize the applicants¡¯ chances of a job offer being extended.
Phase 2
Successful applicants will be granted an interview at the Yongin campus and may be asked to give a teaching demonstration or discuss their pedagogical approach to a specific exercise during the interview. Job offers will be made at the discretion of the university.
