Introduction
PINZ has been selected to provide training and management services for the new Saudi Electric Services Polytechnic (SESP). The polytechnic, based in Baish, Jizan province, Saudi Arabia, opens in September 2012 when an initial intake of 475 male students start a 2.5-year training program. The students selected are likely to be high school graduates at beginner English levels. All students will be male.
The overall training program is a year of ESL and FS; a year of technical training focused on mechanical and electrical engineering; and six months of on-the-job training in the power utility industry and related sectors. Foundation studies topics will focus on mathematics, physics, health and safety and IT.
Trainers
PINZ is seeking full applications from qualified ESL and Technical Bridging / Foundation Studies (FS) trainers to fill the initial 22 ESL and 6 FS teaching roles required. Due to cultural sensitivities, we are looking for male teachers ONLY and preferably on an unaccompanied status. The minimum level of commitment is expected to be for 1 year initially, renewable by mutual agreement. Preference will be given to candidates willing to commit to a two-year assignment.
Trainers will have around 20 students each. The curriculum will be provided in three 14-week trimesters per year (total of 42 teaching weeks per year); where trainers each day have six contact hours. Break periods include between training trimesters, the summer break between academic years and the two Eid festivals celebrating the end of Ramadan and the Haj. Leave is divided into 21 (working days) of Annual Leave and 20 (working days) of Special Leave (full-paid), where leave may not be able to be taken at certain times of the year in order to meet service requirements.
Package
Overall contractor package valued at around SAR330,000 includes: accommodation and local transport allowance; furnished and serviced accommodation with utilities and internet; a one-off relocation allowance; generous leave entitlement; private medical insurance; the initial one way economy class flight to Saudi; and subsequent return economy class flights for each additional year of service.
Application Requirements
All candidates will need to be approved by PINZ initially and then validated with the Steering Committee prior to their appointment being confirmed. The Committee will assess candidates according to the following criteria:
• Native English speakers
• A minimum of 5 years full time post graduation teaching experience in an ESL and/or Technical Bridging / Foundation Studies context;
• A relevant qualification in an ESL, Technical Bridging / Foundation Studies related subject from a recognized University;
• Proven experience and ability to teach ESL and ideally the ability to deliver at least one element of the Technical Bridging / Foundation Studies curriculum;
• Ideally experience teaching in a Middle East and/or Saudi training institution;
• Client has a preference for applicants aged between mid-20s to mid-50s; and,
• Be able to provide at least two work referees that have monitored or supervised candidates in a training role relevant to this role(s).
