American EFL Teachers Wanted for a Research Project

Job Description

A former college professor and current Ph.D. candidate at an American university is seeking two native English-speaking EFL teachers to participate in his research project. In this experimental research project involving use of a WebQuest, one teacher will be responsible for administering experimental treatments (online Instructional Conversation and online recitation) to 24 small groups of university-level EFL students for a total of 48 hours, while the other teacher will be responsible for implementing a traditional, control treatment to another 24 small groups of university-level EFL students for the same total number of hours. All these experimental WebQuest lessons will take place at computer labs on the campus of a university located in northern Seoul. The experiment will begin on Sepetmber 19 and end on October 19, and the teachers will paticipate in the expermental lessons only on Wednesdays (3 pm to 7 pm), Thursdays (3 pm to 7 pm), and Fridays (9 am to 5 pm or possibly 1 pm to 5 pm) over the one-month period. Experimental treatments (as contrasted to the control treatment) will be administered using the synchronous (i.e., real-time) CMC tool “Skype.” Paid training sessions will also be offered in August. Remunerations will be as follows:
Remuneration for the Experimental Teacher (i.e., the teacher responsible for implementing experimental treatments): At least 2,030,000 won for his/her participation in the experiment and pre-experimental training sessions (35,000 won x 48 hours = 1,680,000 won plus 35,000 x (at least) 10 hrs of training = (at least) 350,000 won)
Remuneration for the Control Teacher (i.e., the teacher responsible for implementing the control treatment): At least 1,560,000 won (30,000 won x 48 hrs = 1,440,000 won plus 30,000 won x (at least) 4 hrs of training = (at least) 120,000 won)
Applicants should have the following qualifications.
The experimental teacher must:
  1. hold a baccalaureate or a higher degree 
  2. be a native speaker of American English. 
  3. have EFL teaching experience, preferably at the university/college level. 
  4. possess excellent typing skills (in terms of both speed and accuracy). 
  5. have a good understanding of and/or an interest in discussion-based learning/teaching. 
  6. have enthusiasm about learning traditional classroom discourse vs. nontraditional, discussion-oriented classroom discourse 
  7. have at least some experience in using the synchronous CMC tool “Skype” for teaching or communication purposes.
  8. currently reside in Kora.
The control teacher must:
  1. hold a baccalaureate or a higher degree. 
  2. be a native speaker of American English. 
  3. have EFL teaching experience, preferably at the university/college level. 
  4. have experience with WebQuests or enthusiasm about learning about WebQuests. 
  5. currently reside in Korea.
