PENANG, MALAYSIA: LEAD TEACHER

We are expanding and need a new LEAD TEACHER to start by January 2014
Enhance Education Sdn Bhd specialises in teaching English. We have three teaching centres in Penang State with a total enrolment of more than 1100 students per term. In all centres we provide high-quality English language courses in spacious, well-equipped classrooms using interactive student-centred teaching methods. Our courses cover all ages and levels from age 4 years to adults, but there is especially strong demand from pre-school and primary students.
We seek a LEAD TEACHER who meets all these essential criteria:
* 10 years’ experience in teaching English to all ages and levels, especially children aged 4 to 12 years
* Extensive knowledge of coursebooks and resources
* Proven ability to mentor & support other teachers
* Native English speaker with a university degree in any subject
* CELTA or Trinity London CertTESOL
The Lead Teacher is part of the group management team and reports to a Senior Teacher in our Straits Quay centre. The post is based in our Butterworth centre. The Lead Teacher will have at least a 50% teaching load but will also mentor and support other teachers in the Butterworth centre especially through advising on materials selection, lesson planning, classroom management, etc. Other duties include observing lessons and giving feedback to the teachers, timetabling and allocating teachers to classes, providing cover for teacher absences, liaising with Customer Services over placement tests and admissions and transfers, meeting parents and corporate clients.
All our teachers must relate well to young children and have an active and lively teaching style. We use a range of well-known coursebooks but teachers can draw on our data-bank for supplementary materials and have considerable freedom in planning lessons. Most of our students are part-time and study with us for 2 - 4 hours per week. This means that teaching schedules have to fit around school and work times with many classes being held at weekends and some weekday evenings. Nonetheless we do guarantee all teachers two consecutive rest days each week, usually on Mondays and Tuesdays.
We offer a professionally supportive environment and a locally competitive pay and benefits package including health insurance and pension premiums. The Lead Teacher base pay starts at RM9,500 per month and has additions of a 12% pension contribution and an RM500 location allowance for Butterworth: a total package of RM11,140 per month. Assistance with relocation costs to Penang is available for staff recruited from elsewhere. We give 46 days of paid leave per year including Malaysian public holidays.
Our three centres are located in Straits Quay Marina on Penang Island and on the mainland in Butterworth (Bagan Ajam) and Bukit Mertajam (Alma). All are close to residential and shopping areas with a wide range of affordable apartments having good facilities such as pool and gym. Commuting to all centres is quite easy and no matter where you teach you can choose to live on either Penang Island or on the mainland.
Enhance Education Sdn Bhd is a young company that is growing quickly. The senior staff all have strong educational backgrounds and considerable experience: the Principal is Dr Tom Craig-Cameron, formerly Director of British Council Malaysia, China and Pakistan; the Deputy Principal is Ross Beattie formerly of the Garden International School in Kuala Lumpur; and the two Senior Teachers are Emma Talbot formerly of British Council and Sue Back who is a UK Qualified Teacher.
