Kwandong University is looking for well qualified and highly motivated Full-time Professors who will join KDU's English program from March 2013.
Kwandong University is located in Gangneung City, which is on the northeastern coast of South Korea. Founded in 1954 based on the Christian Faith, it has an enrollment of 8,000 students. The campus is set in a beautiful area, surrounded by forest of pine trees.

[1] Qualifications
a. Native speaker of English (currently residing in Korea preferred) from the U.S.A., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, or South Africa.
b. MA along with a minimum of two years documented teaching experience at a university level. (English, Linguistics and Education major preferred).
c. BA together with a minimum of Four years documented teaching experience at a university level. (English, Linguistics and Education major preferred).
d. CELTA & TESOL certificate holders preferred.
e. Be culturally sensitive and flexible.

[2] Salary
a. 2,500,000 Won per month (15 contractual teaching hours per week)
b. Overtime payment
- Credit Courses : 40,000won per hour
- Non-credit Courses : 30,000won per hour

c. Summer or Winter program

[1] Contract Period : 1 year (March 2013 - February 2014), renewable upon mutual agreement. (1 year)
[2] Working hours : 15 contractual teaching hours per week. Overtime hours paid separately.
[3] Vacation : Paid vacations. Professors are required to teach in summer or winter vacation period, to which overtime pay applies.
[4] Pension
a. Full-time Professors : Private School Pension scheme.
According to the Pension for Private School Teachers and Staff Act, the private school pension scheme will cover the full-time professors instead of the National Pension.

[5] Severance payment : 2.5million won divided over 12 months shall be offered as a bonus during the contract period.
[6] Airfare Reimbursement : Travel allowance of 1,000,000won will be paid for those who are hired overseas.
[7] Medical Insurance. (50% supported.)
[8] Housing : Teachers are responsible for finding their own housing. A monthly housing allowance of 300,000 won is offered to those who reside in Gangneung.

5) Copy of degrees, Certificates.
(As of August 31st, 2010, Korean immigration will no longer accept original degrees. If you are hired, you must be ready to submit the following documents in order to proceed with your visa application:
a. US citizens : A copy of Diploma(s) affixed with an Apostille.
(* The above document must be taken to the Korean embassy in your home country to be notarized.)
b. Canadian : A copy of Diploma(s) notarized by a Notary Public or a Canadian lawyer and then verified by the Korean Consulate in your home country.

6) Copy of transcripts.(scanned and attached) : Successful applicants must provide an original copy when hired.
7) Letter of verification of employment : If you have teaching experience at a university level, you must be able to provide us with an official letter of verification of employment from the university.
8) Recent photo via email.
9) References (Please include telephone number and e-mail address of your supervisor).

10) Criminal Record Check
(If you are hired, you must be ready to submit the following original documents in order to proceed with your visa application:

a. For US citizens :
Effective from Jan 1st, 2011, Korean Immigration will no longer accept state level criminal checks. US citizens must provide a FBI Criminal Background Check with an Apostille.

b. For Canadians,
i) Nation wide Criminal Record Check.(RCMP)
ii) Once you receive the check, it must be taken to the Korean Consulate in your country to be notarized. (For Canadians, authentication from the Korean consulate is required instead of Apostille.)

- Note: A criminal background check is valid for six months after it is issued.
11) For those who are hired from overseas, a medical check-up must be done here in Korea for drug screening, HIV and other diseases. (Overseas check-up will not be accepted by the immigration office). The successful report should be submitted to the immigration office when you register for the Alien Registration Card. If you are currently on medication, please submit your doctor¡¯s note.
[10] Interview
Candidates who passed the initial screening process must be available for face-to-face interviews.
